Peterborough vs Barnsley - prediction, team news, lineups

Peterborough United will be looking to end their winless start to the season when they welcome Barnsley to London Road for Tuesday night’s League One fixture.

The Posh have started their campaign with four straight defeats across all competitions, while the Tykes are yet to taste defeat.

Match preview

This is a tough time to be a Peterborough United fan following a truly horrendous start to the new season.

The Posh have lost all of their competitive matches, including three League One fixtures and an EFL Cup first round game as well.

Their first defeat took place over in Wales as Peterborough were beaten 2-1 by Cardiff City; just a few days later the club were bested again – this time it was a 2-0 loss to Luton Town.

Things did not improve in the cup, with Peterborough bowing out in the first round owing to a 2-1 defeat to Accrington Stanley.

Things got even worse last weekend as Darren Ferguson’s men suffered their latest disappointment – a 2-0 loss at the hands of Wigan Athletic.

Barnsley, on the other hand, have enjoyed a very positive start to the campaign, picking up seven points from their first three games.

The Tykes kicked off their League One campaign with a solid 3-1 victory over freshly-relegated Plymouth Argyle.

Barnsley scored three more goals in a 3-2 win over Burton Albion a week later, before progressing to the second round of the EFL Cup with a win over Fleetwood Town.

Conor Hourihane and his men eventually saw their winning run stopped at home against Bolton Wanderers, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.

Team News

One reason for Peterborough’s woes has been their lengthy injury list – one which still poses a significant challenge.

Rio Adebisi, for instance, remains out of action due to a knee injury, while Alex Bass, Declan Firth and Sam Hughes will also be on the sidelines for Tuesday’s fixture.

Barnsley, meanwhile, will be without Welshman Vimal Yoganathan, who is suspended following a recent red card.

The Tyke could also be without Marc Roberts, who is still recovering from an injury and will require a late fitness test.

Peterborough United possible starting lineup: Reyes; Mills, Wallin, Okagbue, Johnston; Khela, Collins; Odoh, O’Brien-Brady, Hayes; Ihionvein

Barnsley possible starting lineup: Cooper; Ogbeta, Earl, Shepherd, Bland; Cleary, Connell; Keillor-Dunn, Phillips, Vickers; McGoldrick

We say: Peterborough United 0-2 Barnsley

Peterborough United are not only out of form, but they are also struggling with a few injuries.

Barnsley, on the other hand, are absolutely flying on all fronts, and we are backing them to pick up their third league win of the season away at London Road.
