Osasuna will now participate in the 2023-24 Europa Conference League after successfully appealing a ban handed to them by UEFA.

Osasuna have successfully appealed the decision to ban them from competing in Europe next season, with the Spanish side now in line to feature in the Europa Conference League.

Ever since returning to La Liga in 2019, Osasuna have impressively established themselves as a mid-table club, recording 10th, 11th and 10th-placed finishes in their first three years back in the top flight.

However, during the last campaign, Osasuna upset the odds to finish in seventh spot, subsequently securing a place in the Europa Conference League having previously lost the Copa del Rey final to Real Madrid.

Nevertheless, soon after their qualification was confirmed, UEFA banned them from participating in the tournament due to an historical match-fixing case from 2013.

At the time, Osasuna condemned the decision and took their case to the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS), with that needing to be heard before the draw was made before the playoff stage.

That does not take place until August 7, yet Osasuna were in a position to announce on Tuesday that they have been granted permission to take up their spot in the tournament.

Los Rojillos did add, however, that UEFA has opened a 'disciplinary procedure' against them for going to CAS, rather than accepting their original decision.

In response, Osasuna said in a statement: "UEFA has opened a disciplinary procedure against Osasuna for going to ordinary justice in this process, which will not prevent the club's participation in the Conference League.

"The club will accept the penalty imposed by UEFA, before which it will not file an appeal, and has expressed its commitment to the highest body of European football not to raise issues of the sporting field to ordinary courts."

Osasuna, who are managed by Jagoba Arrasate, have not competed on the continent since they reached the semi-finals of the 2006-07 UEFA Cup, where they lost to Sevilla.
