Notts County boss Shaun Derry hopeful over Garry Thompson injury

Notts County boss Shaun Derry is confident that leading scorer Garry Thompson will be back in action soon following a knee injury.

Notts County boss Shaun Derry has backed leading scorer Garry Thompson to recover quickly from a knee injury.

The 33-year-old was forced off with the problem on Saturday during the Magpies' 2-1 defeat at home to Walsall in League One.

County are yet to discover the extent of the injury, but Derry is confident that the veteran midfielder will be back sooner rather than later.

"Garry was feeling sore after the game," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "We'll have to assess that over the next few days.

"He has a problem with a knee, but the warrior that he is, I'm hoping he will be okay. The fortunate thing for us is that we have plenty of time before the next game."

Notts County begin their FA Cup campaign on Saturday when they entertain Accrington Stanley in the first round.
