Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has confirmed that the club missed out on their top centre-forward target during last summer's transfer window.

Harry Kane was heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford when it became clear that he would be leaving Tottenham Hotspur, but the England captain ultimately made the move to Bayern Munich.

Kane has had an outstanding campaign for the Munich giants, scoring 43 goals and registering 11 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions, and he is bidding to help the club win this season's Champions League.

After missing out on the 30-year-old, Man United moved for Rasmus Hojlund, and a positive first season with the Red Devils has seen the Denmark international score 14 times in all competitions.

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that he wants one of his experienced midfielders who makes his side "better" to sign a new contract at the club.

Nearly 18 months into his Arsenal career since joining from Chelsea in the winter of 2023, Jorginho has often proved an influential figure at the base of the Gunners midfield.

The 32-year-old has not set the world alight in terms of goal contributions, only managing one of his own and three assists in 51 games, but his composure in the middle of the park has been lauded in the past few months in particular.

Thanks to Jorginho's stellar work in the number six role, Arteta has been free to deploy Declan Rice in a more advanced position to brilliant effect, although the former's contract expires at the end of the season.

Barcelona head coach Xavi has revealed that the plan is for Eric Garcia to return to Camp Nou this summer and battle for a first-team position during the 2023-24 campaign.

The 23-year-old joined Girona on loan from Barcelona last summer, and he has been in outstanding form for the Catalan outfit this season, making 26 appearances, scoring three times in the process.

Garcia has played a key role in Girona's success in La Liga, with Michel's side currently third in the table, just two points behind second-placed Barcelona ahead of Saturday's clash between the two sides.

There have been suggestions that the Spaniard could move to Girona permanently this summer, but Xavi has revealed that the club are planning for his return at the end of the campaign.

Celtic have announced that Liam Scales has signed a new four-year deal at the club that runs until 2028.

After spending the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Aberdeen, Scales has since become a mainstay in the Celtic side under Brendan Rodgers this term, starting 40 games in all competitions thus far.

Only goalkeeper Joe Hart (3,928) and midfielder Matt O'Riley (3.857) have played more minutes than Scales (3,630) for the Hoops so far this season, further emphasising his importance under Rodgers.

Celtic signed both Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke last summer following the departure of Carl Starfelt, but Scales has successfully established himself as a first-team regular in the heart of defence alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed that they have signed Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle on a contract initially until 2028.

At the back end of the summer transfer window, Wolves agreed to sell Matheus Nunes to City in a deal said to be worth in the region of £53m.

City also allowed Doyle to move to Molineux on a season-long loan which came with the option of a permanent transfer, allegedly for £4.3m with a 50% sell-on clause of any profit.

Although the 2023-24 campaign is yet to draw to a close, Wolves have made the decision to push through with the acquisition of the former England Under-21 international.

'Chelsea, Gallagher must fix situation' - Pochettino comments on contract saga

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has reiterated calls for Conor Gallagher to pen a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Since Pochettino's arrival last summer, Gallagher's seniority has substantially increased, the midfielder captaining the team for the majority of the campaign courtesy of injuries to Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

The academy graduate has missed just the one Premier League fixture all season due to suspension, contributing four goals and seven assists from 33 starts.

Gallagher supplied the free kick that led to Trevoh Chalobah heading Chelsea in front against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night, the Blues going on to record a 2-0 victory.

Manchester City reportedly had scouts present to assess the capabilities of Chelsea full-back Ian Maatsen earlier this week.

Having failed to make a lasting impression on Mauricio Pochettino during the first half of the season, Maatsen was allowed to move to Borussia Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

As it stands, the deal has proven to be a major success, the 22-year-old having been provided with 19 starts in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

If Dortmund can avoid defeat against Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes next week, they will reach the final of the latter competition.

Juventus are reportedly ready to push for the signing of Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

The 22-year-old is currently attempting to rebuild his career away from Old Trafford after charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault were dropped early last year.

As it stands, Greenwood has been successful in rediscovering the form that had previously established him as one of the top prospects in world football.

During a loan spell at Getafe, the England international has contributed eight goals and six assists from 28 appearances in La Liga.
