Sean Dyche has revealed that he had already accepted the Nottingham Forest in his mind before even holding formal discussions with the club.
The former Burnley and Everton boss had been linked with the position at the City Ground during the October international break before Ange Postecoglou was ultimately given one more game against Chelsea to make an impression.
Within 20 minutes of a 3-0 defeat on Saturday afternoon, Postecoglou had been sacked, and Dyche was ultimately ushered in as his successor over the 72 hours that followed.
Dyche's appointment was speeded up due to Thursday's Europa League fixture against Porto as Forest attempt to end a 10-game winless streak.
Nevertheless, speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Dyche admitted that he needed little convincing to become the next head coach in the Forest dugout.
Dyche reacts to Nottingham Forest appointment
Answering a wide array of questions at his media unveiling, the former Forest youth player who already lives in the area suggested that accepting the chance was a simple process.
He said: "I got a call asking if I'd speak to them and pretty much thought it was a yes before I spoke to them. But things still have to be right, contracts and all of that.
"But it's not about the past. I don't question other managers, it's not an easy job and everyone has their own style.
"The club made a decision and now it's for me to try and imprint my way of working, hopefully a successful way of working, on the club."
Postecoglou's style of play rated highly when it came to attacking statistics, but less so from a defensive standpoint. Dyche says that he just wants to find the most "effective" way.
He added: "You have seen this season the way stats have changed. I think it's the first time in 10 years that there have been more longer balls or long passes.
"Of course, when other teams do it, it's long passes. When I've done it in the past, it's been long balls. We all know that. I joke about it but you know it's real.
"We want to play effectively. Because we've got to get back to winning. There is no point in me telling you we are going to play like Spain when they won the World Cup. It's about how many different styles we can find.
"Can we build on a style that we find and use the skill levels of the players slightly differently? We will see. But there has to be a base to work from."
Why Dyche needs to hit the ground running
With Forest sitting down in 25th position in the League Phase table for the Europa League, it is clear that Forest need to avoid a second successive defeat in the competition.
Meanwhile, Forest are also two points adrift of safety in the Premier League table, sitting in 18th position, ahead of playing Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.
Dyche's first home Premier League encounter in charge is a City Ground showdown with Manchester United on November 1.
