McIlroy would "crawl back" to Northern Ireland

Sammy McIlroy has become the second man to express an interest in replacing Nigel Worthington as Northern Ireland manager.

Worthington announced this afternoon that he has made the decision to vacate the position after tomorrow's Euro 2012 qualifier with Italy.

Former Manchester United midfielder McIlroy previously managed the Green and White Army between 2002 and 2005, and the 57-year-old has revealed that he is keen on a return to the helm.

"I think that they definitely need someone with experience," McIlroy told BBC Radio Ulster. "Someone that has been in the game quite a long time.

"I'd crawl back if given the opportunity."

Iain Dowie earlier revealed that he was interested in the vacancy.
