Yanga-Mbiwa makes permanent Roma switch

Newcastle United have confirmed that defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has joined Roma on a permanent deal.

The 25-year-old Frenchman signed for the Serie A club on loan back in September.

Yanga-Mbiwa arrived at St James' Park from Montpellier in January 2013 for £8.5m.

Roma are understood to have paid around £5.5m for the centre-back.

"Newcastle United defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has completed a transfer to AS Roma after meeting a contractual condition contained in the loan agreement between the clubs," read a statement on Newcastle's official website.

Yanga-Mbiwa made a total of 46 appearances for the Premier League side.
