Report: Newcastle United turned down Jack Rodwell

Newcastle United reportedly rejected the chance to sign Jack Rodwell from Manchester City this summer.

The 23-year-old completed his move from the Premier League champions to Sunderland on Tuesday.

However, according to Newcastle Evening Chronicle, the Magpies were given first option on the England midfielder, but decided against making an offer.

Rodwell, who was once regarded as one of the best young midfielders in England, has signed a five-year deal with the Black Cats.
