Report: Mehdi Abeid closes in on move to Panathinaikos

Newcastle United midfielder Mehdi Abeid is edging closer to a move to Panathinaikos, according to reports.

The 23-year-old moved to St James' Park four years ago, but has made just 21 appearances for the club.

Abeid spent a season on loan at Panathinaikos in 2013-14, and the 20-time Greek champions are keen to take him back, according to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.

The paper claims that a deal is close, but the clubs are still haggling over a fee.

Abeid made 16 appearances last season.
