Transfer news and rumours today: Newcastle Isak replacement and Trafford alternative, Callum Wilson 'agrees' move

Newcastle's Isak replacement, Wilson agrees move: Transfer news and rumours today

Newcastle United have reportedly been running the rule over Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier as they consider alternatives to James Trafford.

The Magpies were long considered the front-runners to sign Burnley number one Trafford, but the England Under-21 international has now agreed a return to former club Manchester City.

Eddie Howe still has Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka at his disposal, but Newcastle are lacking an up-and-coming goalkeeper, a situation that they are supposedly trying to rectify.

According to The Athletic, the Champions League competitors have been 'scouting' Chevalier, who has also been persistently linked with a move to Manchester United as a successor to Andre Onana.

However, the report adds that there is no guarantee that Newcastle will firm up their interest in the Frenchman, as Howe is seemingly happy with Pope and Dubravka as his options for another year.

Chevalier registered 11 clean sheets in 34 Ligue 1 appearances for Lille in the 2024-25 campaign and also played every minute of their run to the last 16 of the Champions League.

Newcastle 'admire' Wolverhampton Wanderers striker amid Alexander Isak uncertainty

At the other end of the St James' Park pitch, Newcastle have supposedly shown an interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers' Jorgen Strand Larsen as they weigh up replacements for Alexander Isak.

Twenty-five-year-old Isak is believed to have communicated his desire to leave the club this summer, and Liverpool are expected to come forward with a British-record offer for the Sweden international.

Newcastle remain determined to keep hold of Isak, but thanks to Liverpool's supreme spending power in the current window, the English champions may stump up an offer that the Magpies cannot refuse.

According to the Express & Star, Larsen has been identified as a suitable successor to Isak, having quickly adapted to life in the Premier League during the 2024-25 campaign following his move from Celta Vigo.

The 25-year-old netted 14 times in 35 matches for Vitor Pereira's side last season during his loan spell, and his contract was converted into a permanent one at the beginning of July.

As a result, Wolves supposedly have no interest in letting Strand Larsen leave this summer, and they are under no pressure to sell given that his terms run until the end of the 2028-29 campaign.

Callum Wilson 'agrees terms' with next club after Newcastle exit

From possible Newcastle future to Newcastle past, Callum Wilson has reportedly agreed a move to West Ham United following his departure from St James' Park.

The 33-year-old has been a free agent since the beginning of July after running down his contract with Newcastle, ending a successful five-year stay in the North East.

Wilson managed 49 goals and 11 assists in 130 appearances for the Magpies, although he netted just once in 22 games during an injury-hit 2024-25 season.

Nevertheless, the England international will have the chance to continue his career in the Premier League, as talkSPORT claim that he has given the green light to personal terms with West Ham.

Wilson has apparently agreed to a 'minimal' salary with goals and appearance bonuses at West Ham, whose owner David Sullivan was approached by the striker's agent over a free transfer.

Leeds United and clubs in the Saudi Pro League are also said to have taken an interest in Wilson, but the Irons are currently at the head of the queue.

West Ham 'tell' Emerson Palmieri he is free to leave

However, Wilson may not be sharing a London Stadium dressing room with left-back Emerson Palmieri, who has reportedly been informed that he can leave the Hammers this summer.

The 30-year-old has been a stalwart of the Irons XI for the past three seasons and made 31 Premier League appearances in 2024-25, coming up with two goals and an assist in the process.

Emerson was not included in West Ham's travelling party for their pre-season tour of the United States, though, and BBC Sport claims that the club have told the left-back he is free to depart.

Emerson has now entered the final 12 months of his deal with the Irons, who are keen to recoup a nominal fee for his services this summer before he leaves on a free in 2026.

West Ham have reinforced their full-back ranks this summer with the signings of Kyle Walker-Peters and El Hadji Malick Diouf, while 19-year-old Oliver Scarles also threatened Emerson's place on occasion last season.

The ex-Chelsea man has come up with five goals and six assists in 113 games for the Irons and started eight games during their run to Conference League glory in 2023.
