Newcastle United target Eljero Elia

Newcastle United are expected to continue their pursuit of Juventus winger Eljero Elia this summer, according to reports.

Elia, who made a total of four first-team appearances for Juventus this season, admitted earlier this week that he is hoping to leave the Italian outfit after a frustrating season.

The Magpies are understood to be leading the race for his signature, after manager Alan Pardew attempted to sign the Dutchman over the winter.

The former Hamburg star is said to regret rejecting a move to the Sports Direct Arena in favour of Juventus a season ago, according to Goal.com, but could be the subject of another bid at the end of the current season.

Elia arrived at the Turin outfit in a deal worth a little over £7m last summer.
