Newcastle United to offer Shola Ameobi fresh terms

Alan Pardew confirms that Shola Ameobi is to be given a new contract by Newcastle United.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed that the club will offer Shola Ameobi a new contract over the coming weeks.

The 31-year-old still has 12 months to run on his current deal, but Pardew is keen to warn off potential suitors by handing the striker a further year on Tynside.

"He's still got another year here with us, and I don't see a problem extending that," Pardew told The Chronicle. "I think the bottom line with Shola will be how long he wants to stay at one club, because he's been here all his career."

The Nigeria international has spent his entire 13-year career at St James' Park, barring a brief loan stint with Stoke City in 2008.
