Newcastle United have reportedly considered making an approach for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana in the upcoming January transfer window.
After the Saudi Public Investment Fund completed a takeover of the Magpies last week, the rumour mill has been constantly swirling with potential incoming at St. James' Park, with the young French defender being the latest player linked with a move to the North East.
According to Mercato, Newcastle United have made official contact with Fofana's representatives over the possibility of an upcoming approach.
The new hierarchy at St. James' Park are said to have identified the defence as a key area needing improvement, with the 20-year-old near the top of their list of targets.
The Frenchman has missed the beginning of the new season after sustaining a serious injury in a friendly against Villarreal, but he marked his debut Premier League campaign with 28 league appearances as Leicester finished fifth last term.
