McClaren wants "stupid money" for De Jong

FC Twente manager Steve McClaren has told Newcastle United that it would cost "stupid money" to land Luuk de Jong.

The 21-year-old has been the subject of interest from the Magpies, who saw their opening bid of £8m rejected.

Reports have suggested that Alan Pardew is readying a second bid of around £12m, but McClaren has insisted that he wants to keep hold of his star striker.

"Luuk de Jong would stay if it were up to me - unless stupid money is offered," said the 51-year-old. "The club know what I think about it."

De Jong lit up the Eredivisie last season, scoring 25 goals in 24 games.
