Liverpool receive Isak transfer boost as Newcastle confirm Woltemade signing with fee, contract length and shirt number revealed

Liverpool receive biggest Isak boost yet as Newcastle confirm club-record signing

Liverpool have received a major boost in their pursuit of Alexander Isak after Newcastle confirmed the club-record signing of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart.

The Reds have so far failed in their efforts to prise the Sweden international away from St James' Park, with Newcastle reluctant to part ways with their star striker without signing an adequate replacement.

However, the Magpies have now seemingly found Isak's possible successor, having confirmed the addition of Woltemade from Bundesliga club Stuttgart.

According to Sky Sports News, Newcastle have signed the 23-year-old in a club-record deal worth around £69m, surpassing the £63m that they splashed out to sign Isak from Real Sociedad in 2022.

The Magpies will pay €75m (£64.9m) plus a further €5m (£4.3m) for a forward who scored 18 goals in 36 competitive appearances for Stuttgart.

Woltemade, who was also the subject of interest from Bayern Munich, has put pen to paper on a long-term contract and will wear the number 27 shirt for Eddie Howe's side.

"I'm really happy to be at this amazing club," Woltemade told Newcastle's media channels. "From the first contact, I felt like the club really wanted me and had big plans for me,"

"It's a big step in my life to leave Germany, but everybody has welcomed me so well, and it already feels like family. I have a really good feeling from speaking to the head coach that this is the right place for me to find my best level."

"I know the stadium from watching games on television - it looks amazing, and I know the atmosphere is crazy. I'm really excited to play and start scoring goals here."

Howe explains Woltemade signing as Isak edges closer to Liverpool

Howe has revealed that the Germany international fits the profile that Newcastle are looking for in a striker.

"We're delighted to get Nick's signing over the line so quickly," Howe said. "He fits the profile for exactly what we have been looking to add to our attacking options.

"He's strong in a lot of areas - he has great technical ability and has proven himself to be a real threat in one of Europe's top leagues - but he's also still at an age where he has plenty of room to develop and grow here.

"Nick is a great character too, and we're really pleased to welcome him to the group."

Newcastle are still keen to sign another striker, with Isak seemingly edging closer to getting his desired move to Liverpool.

The Premier League champions are believed to be preparing a record-breaking £130m bid to sign the 25-year-old before Monday's transfer deadline.
