Georginio Wijnaldum: 'Newcastle United are playing good football'

Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum claims that the team have not got the results that their performances have deserved this season.

Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has suggested that the team have not been rewarded for the quality of football that they have produced so far this season.

The Magpies currently sit bottom of the Premier League table after failing to win any of their opening eight matches under new head coach Steve McClaren.

Wijnaldum, who joined Newcastle from PSV Eindhoven in the summer, has insisted that the team's performances have not been as bad as their league placing may suggest.

"I think the games we have played have been pretty nice, but we just haven't had the results", he told RTV Rijnmond.

"And now that is important because we are bottom, which is not so good.

"Anyone can beat anyone else, everything is to be expected in the league. You just need to see the results. You play against world-class players, while the lesser teams are also good. It's a tough league."

Newcastle return to league action against Norwich City on October 18.
