Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is aware that even a win against Everton next week may not be enough to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.

The Magpies suffered a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Sports Direct Arena this afternoon, a result which leaves them one point behind Tottenham Hotspur with one game left to play.

Pardew believes that Arsenal have an added incentive to win against West Bromwich Albion to ensure they finish above their local rivals Spurs.

However, the 50-year-old said that all his team can do is beat Everton at Goodison Park and then worry about what happens elsewhere.

"[Arsenal] have got to win, really, in case Spurs finish above them, so that could be significant," said Pardew.

"For our part, there's a simple equation: we have to win at Everton, which might not be enough, but that's what we need to do."

Pardew took over at Newcastle in 2010.
