Alan Pardew says that the "silly" media pressure put him off going for the England managerial job.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has claimed that the constant media pressure put on England managers stopped him from entering the running for the vacant Three Lions role.

The former West Ham United coach was a reported contender for the England role following the shock departure of Fabio Capello earlier this week.

"I feel it is a job where you have to consider your family, you have to consider where you are and what the timing is, and it's just not right for me," Pardew told talkSPORT. "My two girls are very young.

"Stuart Pearce has got the job [temporarily] and he's splashed over the front of The Sun over an incident in 1994. I mean, come on.

"You have to understand that for that England job, with the media we have, I think it has to go to an experienced manager. A manager whose family has grown up and can understand some of the silly things that go on."

Pardew has stated that he is more than "happy" to remain with the Magpies.
