Newcastle's Steve McClaren considers dropping Aleksandar Mitrovic for next game

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren says that he might drop Aleksandar Mitrovic for this weekend's match against Crystal Palace.

Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren has revealed that he will consider dropping Aleksandar Mitrovic for the club's next game against Crystal Palace.

The 21-year-old striker, who is said to have been involved in a dressing-room brawl while on international duty with Serbia, failed to impress in Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Leicester City at St James' Park.

In the 62nd minute of the match, Mitrovic, who has scored two goals this season, was hauled off and replaced with Papiss Cisse.

According to The Shields Gazette, when asked if Mitrovic could be left out of the starting lineup at Selhurst Park this weekend, McClaren said: "We will have a look at that. Sometimes it's not all fine weather and going your way.

"Sometimes you have to roll your sleeves up and this is a time when we have to do exactly that. Mitrovic is part of a Serbia team that has had a bad time - that might have affected him, but it's no excuse."

Mitrovic joined the Magpies from Anderlecht in the summer.
