Jonas Gutierrez takes parting shot at Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley

Jonas Gutierrez accuses Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley of disregarding him during his battle with cancer.

Jonas Gutierrez has taken a parting shot at Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley following confirmation that his contract with the club will not be renewed.

The Argentine took to social media after being informed of his release to thank the Magpies fans for their support during his battle with testicular cancer.

However, Gutierrez also said that he feels Ashley turned his back on him during his struggle with the illness.

"Two things I learn from my illness, how you can support a player (Newcastle fans) and how you leave a player alone (Newcastle owner)," Gutierrez wrote on Twitter.

He added on Facebook: "Thanks to all football fans and Newcastle fans for supporting me and trust in me.

"This is a way to demonstrate I always hear you. You are very important to me, football wouldn't be the same without you. All my effort and affection is for you!"

Gutierrez was on target for Newcastle in his final game for the club, the 2-0 victory over West Ham United that kept them in the Premier League.
