John Carver looking for instant Newcastle United response

Newcastle United manager John Carver says that he was "desperate" to get back on the training pitch this week following last week's heavy defeat against Manchester City.

Newcastle United boss John Carver has warned Aston Villa that his side are looking to avenge the heavy defeat suffered at the hands of Manchester City last weekend.

The Magpies were downed 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium in what was their first loss in four outings.

Villa provide the opposition this weekend, now under the management of Tim Sherwood, and Carver is expecting the Premier League strugglers to provide a far sterner test than witnessed over the past few months.

"After that result last weekend, I was desperate to get back on the training pitch," he told reporters. "We will hopefully put it right this weekend. I let the players suffer on Monday a little, but everyone is in good spirits now and Saturday is an opportunity to put it right.

"I've seen the difference in Villa straight away under Tim. They are going front to back a bit quicker. Villa have got a new lease of life and more energy."

Newcastle are currently 11th in the league table, while the Villans are down in 19th place.
