John Carver frustrated with referee

Carver frustrated with referee

Newcastle United manager John Carver has admitted that he was frustrated with Anthony Taylor's decision to not give his side a penalty against Manchester United.

Referee Taylor did not give a spot kick to Newcastle after Chris Smalling appeared to trip striker Emmanuel Riviere inside the box.

Ashley Young's 89th-minute strike went on to condemn Newcastle to a 1-0 defeat at St James' Park, and Carver believes that the penalty decision could have changed the game in his side's favour.

"We don't have the same ability as Manchester United – Manchester United have world-class players - but we have matched them for 89 minutes," Carver told Sky Sports News.

"But what is even more disappointing is the fact that in the first half, a blatant penalty [was] not given. Anthony Taylor is a human being, he hasn't given it.

"He sees it once, we see it time and time again and I saw it at half-time about five times and it's still a penalty. But he's a human being. He's made a mistake and I'm a bit frustrated with that."

Newcastle are 11th in the Premier League table following the result.
