John Carver frustrated after "organised" Newcastle United lose

Newcastle United manager John Carver rues "a mad 10 minutes" after his side lose to Queens Park Rangers.

Newcastle United manager John Carver has said that his side threw away three points after their 2-1 defeat at Queens Park Rangers.

Emmanuel Riviere put the Magpies into the lead, but two quick strikes from Matt Phillips and Leroy Fer won the game for the West Londoners in a result that keeps Newcastle in Premier League relegation trouble.

Carver told BBC Sport: "It was a mad 10 minutes in the second half and that was hugely disappointing. I thought in the first half we were in control. They weren't a threat, we were organised.

"We knew the result we tried to get today and had to get. We had to go for the win. Having lost, this is the best scenario with Hull losing. There's one game left and it's a do-or-die situation.

"We have to manage the pressure this week, focus and keep out of media spotlight. We've talked about some games in the last three, four weeks being the biggest and next week against West Ham is one of them."

Newcastle are two points clear of 18th-placed Hull City, and a win next week will preserve their Premier League status.
