Cahill's red card appeal rejected

Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has had his appeal against the red card he received during Sunday's encounter against Newcastle United rejected by the Football Association.

Cahill was handed his marching orders by referee Andre Marriner following an incident with Newcastle's Yohan Cabaye after the match had ended.

The Toffees felt the punishment was unfair and opted to contest Marriner's decision.

However, this has been dismissed by the FA and the Australian international will now serve a three-match suspension at the start of next season.
