Sammy Ameobi to miss pre-season friendly against Hartlepool

Newcastle United have confirmed that winger Sammy Ameobi has suffered a setback in his pre-season schedule after picking up a hamstring strain.

The 20-year-old was expected to feature for the Magpies in tomorrow night's friendly before suffering the problem in a training session in Portugal.

The England Under-21 international missed the club's goalless draw with the injury on Saturday and is struggling to be fit as the new season approaches.

The Magpies begin the new Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on August 18.
