Callum Wilson sidelined until final few games of season

Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson is going to be unavailable until the final few matches of the season, according to Eddie Howe.

The Magpies did include the 29-year-old into their 25-man squad for the second half of the season despite the fact that he is currently injured with a calf problem, which has been the case since the 1-1 draw with Manchester United at the end of December.

Wilson has played 15 times in the Premier League this season, finding the back of the net six times, but the club did bring in another striker in the form of Chris Wood to provide some more options.

"We were never going to leave Callum out. We feel he can come back and play a huge part at the end of the season, we are taking a slight risk in that because he is not fit at the moment. I felt it was a risk worth taking," Howe told the press.

"When he comes back, he has got to be fit and ready to give his best. I do not think it is going to be short-term. Hopefully, he can make the last few games of the season and really help us in a key moment."

Newcastle currently find themselves 19th in the Premier League table, having only won two matches all season, but they remain just one point away from safety.
