Half-Time Report: Yoan Gouffran puts Newcastle United into the lead

Newcastle United lead West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at half time as the sides meet in the Premier League.

Newcastle United are leading West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at half time as the sides meet at St James' Park this evening, thanks to a first-half header from Yoan Gouffran.

The first piece of real attacking action saw West Brom earn themselves a free kick in a dangerous position, however Chris Brunt wasn't able to convert as he blasted over the bar.

Shola Ameobi was involved as Newcastle created their first chance as the striker found Yohan Cabaye, but the Frenchman's shot went wide of goal.

Brunt was involved again soon after when he was played in by James Morrison, leaving the midfielder to crash wildly off target.

Both sides scrapped for the ball and it looked as though they would go into the break on level terms, however Gouffran had other ideas as he rose to head home from a few yards out to put the hosts ahead in the 36th minute.
