Alan Pardew is not guaranteeing Ryan Taylor a Premier League start, despite his performance last night.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has refused to guarantee a starting spot in the Premier League for full-back Ryan Taylor, despite his goal in last night's 1-1 draw with Atromitos.

Taylor, whose goal was a trademark free kick, did not play in Newcastle's opening-day victory against Tottenham Hotspur, and Pardew has made it clear that being good at free kicks should not guarantee a starting spot.

"I should think in the Premier League, there are not too many players at dead balls who have the accuracy of Ryan," Pardew said.

"He is desperate to play in the first team, but he has got some good performances from Saturday's game against Tottenham in front of him, so he has got to be patient.

"When he gets his chance, what more can he do? He played very well - and hopefully there are a few more of those, please."

Taylor has scored 10 goals in all competitions for Newcastle.
