Fagundez, Davies strikes secure Revolution win

Second-half goals from Diego Fagundez and Charlie Davies guided the New England Revolution to a 2-0 win over the Chicago Fire in their MLS clash.

The home side started the game well as Teal Bunbury raided down the right and cut the ball back into the box for the run of Davies, but he scooped his effort just over the bar.

Chicago went close when Greg Cochrane found space down the flank to whip in a cross for the unmarked Harrison Shipp, but the midfielder put his header over the bar.

The Revolution threatened again as they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box which was put inches past the post by Chris Tierney.

In the second half, New England took the lead as Chicago failed to clear their lines from a corner, and Fagundez struck the ball first time on the volley and his strike sailed past Jon Busch into the net.

The home side doubled their lead minutes later when Bunbury beat his man down the flank and lifted a cross into the box for Davies, who guided his header beyond the reach of Busch.

Tierney almost added a third for the Revolution when he collected the ball on the edge of the box and drilled a strike at goal, which was well saved by Busch, but the home side still secured the three points.
