Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons was not interested in a move to Napoli as he did not feel that he could handle the competition for places, according to his agent.
The 24-year-old, who has six caps for France, was repeatedly linked with the Partenopei over the recent summer transfer window, but agent Frederic Guerra said that his client was wary of a move to Naples.
"There are different parameters you must take into account," Guerra told Papinade.com.
"Max felt fragile and not strong enough to handle the competition he would've faced with a transfer to Napoli. He has to continue his growth process in Ligue 1."
Arsenal were also linked with a move for the defensive midfielder.
