Maurizio Sarri appointed new Napoli manager

Napoli have confirmed the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as the successor to Rafael Benitez.

The 56-year-old, who was born in Naples, resigned as manager of Empoli last week.

Having guided the Azzurri to Serie A promotion in 2014, AC Milan-linked Sarri helped retain his side's top-flight place last season in impressive style.

Napoli disappointingly finished their campaign in fifth place, meanwhile, with Benitez leaving for Real Madrid soon after.
