Marco Di Vaio scores twice in Montreal win

Montreal edge past DC United

Marco Di Vaio scored a late winner to secure a 2-1 victory for the Montreal Impact against DC United at the Saputo Stadium.

Justin Mapp had the opportunity to give Montreal the lead inside the first minute but his low effort was well saved by Bill Hamid.

Hamid was called into action once again just two minutes later when he was forced to block Andres Romero's scuffed effort from six yards out following a flowing move from the Impact.

Montreal dominated proceedings for the majority of the first half, with United being reduced to trying their luck from long range.

The hosts found the goal their play deserved on the stroke of half time as the dangerous Mapp picked out Di Vaio, who rifled his shot into the top corner of the net.

United looked far more dangerous after the break, with both Dwayne De Rosario and Luis Silva being denied by Troy Perkins in the Montreal goal.

Perkins proved a constant source of frustration for United in the second period as he produced another fantastic save to keep out Kyle Porter.

The visitors snatched a deserved equaliser with nine minutes left in the game when Conor Doyle collected a defence-splitting pass from Silva before slotting the ball into the back of the net.

Di Vaio quickly responded for the hosts though when he curled home a brilliant strike in the 83rd minute to secure the three points for Montreal.
