Rene Girard takes positives from Toulouse draw

Rene Girard says that Montpellier HSC's 1-1 draw with Toulouse was a point gained.

Montpellier HSC boss Rene Girard has said that he is satisfied with his team's performance in their 1-1 draw with Toulouse.

The 58-year-old said that the Ligue 1 curtain-raiser, which was marred by three red cards, was a "typical first game back".

Despite leading until the 72nd minute, Girard believes that it was a point won, not two lost, for his team.

"It was a typical first game back," Ligue1.com quotes Girard as saying. "No-one ever really runs away with it against Toulouse. They are always tight games, complicated, that play out on details.

"I'm satisfied with my lads' mental approach, even though we're not at 100% yet. It's a point won.

"It was a timid return to action. We knew it wouldn't be simple and we knew that we wouldn't suddenly start playing champagne football from one day to the next. We didn't have the killer instinct to kill off the match against a side who don't expose themselves very often. We still gave up possession a bit too easily, and we'll have to learn how to better control matches."

La Pallaide travel to Lorient in their next fixture.
