Mustapha Carayol pens Middlesbrough contract extension

Middlesbrough announce that Mustapha Carayol has signed a new two-year contract on Teesside.

Mustapha Carayol has signed a new two-year deal with Championship outfit Middlesbrough.

The 26-year-old was due to be out of contract at the end of this season, but will now remain on Teesside until the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

The winger hasn't played a single game for Boro this season, missing most of the campaign with a serious knee injury before recently being loaned to Brighton & Hove Albion.

He is now back with his parent club and available to play his part in the Championship playoffs, which Boro are likely to be a part of.

Boro boss Aitor Karanka told the club website: "He has recovered from a serious injury and had the opportunity to play some games at Brighton.

"He is now able to play for us in the playoffs. Muzzy has improved with us and can be a very important player for us in the future if he continues in the same way."

Since joining Boro from Bristol Rovers for around £500,000 in 2012, Carayol has scored 12 goals for the club.
