Middlesbrough 'close' to signing Real Madrid keeper on loan

Middlesbrough are expected to complete the loan signing of Real Madrid goalkeeper Tomas Mejias.

Boro are looking to replace Shay Given, whose loan at the Riverside Stadium comes to an end at the end of this month.

Mejias, 24, is due to again link up with Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanak, who coached him while at Madrid.

Real's Spanish international Iker Casillas revealed that Mejias was starting a "new adventure" on his Twitter page.

Mejias has made one appearance for Real in La Liga back in the 2010-11 season.
