Middlesbrough grab last-minute equaliser

Marvin Emnes scored in added time to grab Middlesbrough a last-gasp draw against Blackpool at the Riverside stadium, after Chris Basham had initially given Paul Ince's Blackpool a second-half lead.

Middlesbrough's first chance came when Mustapha Carayol's shot was easily saved low down by Matt Gilks in an opening 10 minutes that saw a paucity of chances for both teams.

Blackpool tried pushing on to find an opening and Steven Davies tried his luck from the edge of the area, but his effort landed straight in the arms of Middlesbrough goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler.

The first half continued without much goalmouth action at either end, with both sets of supporters joining together in a round of applause in tribute to former Blackpool player Gary Parkinson, who is suffering from locked-in syndrome.

After the break it took a timely interception from Craig Cathcart to ensure that Middlesbrough did not make the most of a neat ball across the six-yard box.

Middlesbrough then missed a great opportunity when the ball dropped to Lukas Jutkiewicz, who blasted wide from close range.

However, it was Blackpool who took the lead in the final 10 minutes following Barry Ferguson's free kick. It fell to Chris Basham, whose thumped ball back into the box took a deflection and ended up in the goal.

For those Blackpool fans who thought that they had pinched an away win, Marvin Emnes then turned up to spoil the party as he followed up from Gilkes's attempted punch to slot home and grab a last-gasp draw.
