Aitor Karanka: 'Our good record against Brentford counts for very little'

Karanka: 'Our good record counts for nothing'

Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has insisted that his side's good record against Brentford this season will mean nothing when they step out onto the pitch for the second leg of the Championship playoff semi-final.

The North-East outfit take a 2-1 advantage into the match at the Riverside Stadium thanks to Fernando Amorebieta's last-minute strike at Griffin Park, while Karanka's men also did the double over the Bees in their earlier meetings in the campaign.

However, the Spaniard is taking nothing for granted following his own experience as a player with Real Madrid back in the 1999-2000 season.

He told reporters: "From my own experience as a player with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich beat us three times in the season and we beat them once to advance to the final of the Champions League.

"The three wins were good for us, but the match is going to be very different."

Middlesbrough face off against Mark Warburton's men on Friday.
