Wayne Rooney 'willing to take pay cut to finalise Everton move'

Wayne Rooney will reportedly accept a reduced salary to prevent his move from Man United to Everton dragging on, with a move still expected to be finalised this week.

Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney is reportedly prepared to take a pay cut in order to prevent his move to boyhood club Everton dragging on.

The 31-year-old is expected to become the Toffees' sixth summer arrival in the next few days once personal terms are finalised, taking him back to the club where his professional career began 15 years ago.

Rooney has two years left to run on his current United deal but is said to be hopeful of departing this summer due to a lack of playing time last term, although a deal with Everton has yet to be officially finalised.

According to Sky Sports News, the 31-year-old has been told that he has to accept a reduced salary at Goodison Park, which he will agree to if it means getting a free transfer finalised.

England international Rooney struck five goals in 25 Premier League appearances in 2016-17, 15 of which were starts.
