Report: Robin van Persie declares wish to stay at Manchester United

Van Persie 'wants to stay' at United

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has told manager Louis van Gaal that he wants to stay at the club next season, according to reports.

Van Persie has had a disappointing campaign, as injuries and poor form have combined to keep his goalscoring tally down to just 10, and the Dutchman has been linked with a move away from the club in the summer as he approaches the final 12 months of his contract.

However, the Daily Mail reports that the 31-year-old is happy to stay at the club next season as long as he is guaranteed playing time, although he accepts that he is no longer the club's first-choice striker.

Van Persie has just returned from an ankle injury and is expected to start against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday as Wayne Rooney waits for results of a scan on a knee injury.

Van Persie joined United from Arsenal in 2012.
