Spurs 'step up interest in Hernandez'

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly stepped up their interest in long-term target Javier Hernandez, earmarking him as a potential replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Togolese striker is expected to join Aston Villa in the next 24 hours, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino sees the Manchester United forward as the man to take his place up front, according to The Mirror.

Spurs are believed to be in the market for two strikers, with Roberto Soldado also expected to exit White Hart Lane this summer following a disappointing season.

West Bromwich Albion's Saido Berahino has been linked with the London outfit, but reports suggest that the clubs have been unable to agree on a fee.

Hernandez spent last term on loan at Real Madrid and his future at Old Trafford is uncertain.
