Manchester United's Chris Smalling reveals that he is keeping in close contact with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his loan spell at Roma.

Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling has revealed that he is keeping in contact with Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his loan spell at Roma.

The Englishman joined I Giallorossi on loan during the summer transfer window having been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

The Italian giants are allegedly keen on completing a permanent deal for the 29-year-old, who is said to be valued by the 20-time English champions in the region of £12.9m.

However, Smalling has suggested that he is still in the plans of Solskjaer moving forward as the Norwegian is keeping a close eye on his form in Serie A.

"I still speak to all the players – I was there a long time, they're my friends. Tough times there at the moment, but the manager drops me messages," Smalling told The Athletic. "He's watching me, he saw I've been man of the match and congratulated me."

Smalling has played the full 90 minutes in each of Roma's last six Serie A matches, helping Paulo Fonseca's side to keep a clean sheet in three of those fixtures.
