Wayne Rooney offered Manchester United captaincy?

Manchester United boss David Moyes is reportedly willing to make Wayne Rooney the club's captain in a bid to keep the England star at Old Trafford.

Manchester United manager David Moyes is reportedly willing to make Wayne Rooney the club's captain in a bid to keep the England star at Old Trafford.

Rooney's current United contract is due to expire in June 2015 and the Red Devils appear to be pulling out all the stops to convince him to sign a new deal.

According to The Mirror, in addition to offering Rooney the captain's armband, United are willing to give the player £300,000 per week in wages and will consult him regarding transfer-market strategy.

Rooney has not featured for United since the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on New Year's Day, but the 28-year-old could make his return from injury in Tuesday's Premier League clash with Cardiff City.
