Rodgers: 'We didn't want Depay'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has rejected reports that the club were in the running to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay.

The 21-year-old was rumoured to be a target for the Merseyside outfit, as well as Paris Saint-Germain, but the Dutchman opted to join Liverpool's rivals Manchester United.

The winger will move to Old Trafford in the summer after both parties agreed on a deal thought to be worth in the region of £22m.

When asked about Depay in this morning's press conference, Rodgers said: "It wasn't something we were ever interested in. We already have four wingers at the club, we have other priorities."

Meanwhile, the Northern Irishman has revealed that Daniel Sturridge is unlikely to play again until September after undergoing hip surgery.
