Report: United close on Fabregas

Manchester United's chief executive Ed Woodward has reportedly left the club's pre-season tour of Australia to conclude a deal for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

It was revealed earlier on Wednesday that Woodward had boarded a plane from Australia to address "urgent transfer business" for the Premier League champions.

It had been suggested that Wayne Rooney's reported move to Chelsea could be on the agenda, but according to the Daily Mail, Woodward has departed to tie up a deal for Fabregas.

United submitted a bid of £25m for the former Arsenal midfielder on Monday, but it is understood that the Spanish outfit are holding out for closer to £32m, which would eclipse the £31m United paid Tottenham Hotspur for Dimitar Berbatov in 2008.
