Report: Michael Carrick to pen new Manchester United deal

Manchester United are reportedly ready to offer Michael Carrick a new contract.

The England international's current deal at Old Trafford expires this summer and an injury at the start of the season led to suggestions that he could be cut loose at the end of the campaign.

However, the midfielder has been excellent since returning from injury and according to the Daily Star, United boss Louis van Gaal is desperate to retain the experienced campaigner.

United, who have won their last four games, return to Premier League action away to a damaged Southampton on Monday.
