Report: Manchester United to reject Arsenal's £12m Chris Smalling bid

Report: Arsenal's Smalling bid to be rejected

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to reject Arsenal's attempts to sign defender Chris Smalling this summer.

Reports emerged this week claiming that the Gunners are ready to part with £12m for the England international.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, United manager Louis van Gaal has no plans to approve a transfer for Smalling, despite rumours that the Dutchman will spend a large transfer kitty on defenders this summer.

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has been widely linked to Old Trafford, which raises questions over the long-term futures of Smalling and Phil Jones.

Smalling joined United in 2010 from Fulham.
