Phil Neville: "Sad day for Manchester United"

Phil Neville says that it will be a "sad day" for Manchester United should they allow homegrown duo Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck to leave the club.

Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville believes that it will be a "sad day" for the club should they sell Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley.

The English duo have been linked with moves to Arsenal and Aston Villa respectively, although neither has officially left Old Trafford with time ticking down towards the 11pm transfer deadline.

"It is a sad day for Manchester United when they sell two of their homegrown players," BBC Sport quotes Neville as saying. "I think it will be great for Tom to play every week and get his confidence back. He will be back in the England squad."

Cleverley has made 42 appearances for United, while Welbeck has featured 53 times since making his debut in 2008.

Earlier this evening, the Premier League outfit completed the signing of Ajax defender Daley Blind.
