Manchester United confirm Cristiano Ronaldo return

Manchester United have officially confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Old Trafford on a two-year contract.

Last Friday, United announced that they had agreed a deal with Juventus, reportedly edging out neighbours Manchester City who had seemed destined to sign the Portuguese superstar.

Juventus backed up those developments early on Tuesday, revealing that €15m (£12.86m) would be paid up-front with a further €8m (£6.86m) coming in add-ons.

United followed suit by making a second announcement little more than an hour later, finalising a reunion with a player who first departed the club in 2009.

Speaking to the club's official website, Ronaldo said: "Manchester United is a club that has always had a special place in my heart, and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement on Friday.

"I cannot wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a full stadium and see all the fans again. I'm looking forward to joining up with the team after the international games, and I hope we have a very successful season ahead."

The 36-year-old is currently scheduled to make his second debut when United play host to Newcastle United on September 11.
