Manchester United reportedly emerge as the leading candidates to sign in-demand Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, who has also been linked with Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Manchester United have reportedly emerged as frontrunners for the signature of in-demand Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a number of Europe's top clubs courtesy of his performances so far this season, and yesterday refused to rule out the possibility of leaving Lyon.

The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are all understood to be tracking him, but France Football reports that United are leading the race at this stage.

Lyon are expected to command a hefty fee for Ndombele, possibly as high as the £90m United paid for Paul Pogba in 2016, which could put off a number of other suitors.

However, the Red Devils are willing to part with the money as they try to drag themselves back in the mix for major honours, although the uncertainty surrounding the future of manager Jose Mourinho reportedly risks putting the France international off.

Lyon are understood to have already rejected offers well in excess of €50m (£45.2m) for Ndombele, who initially joined Lyon on loan before making the move permanent in a €8m (£7.2m) deal earlier this year.
