Kevin Strootman not targeted by Manchester United

Man Utd deny Strootman bid

Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has denied claims that the club are interested in signing Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman.

Recent speculation suggested that Sir Alex Ferguson's side were lining up a £15m bid for the PSV Eindhoven youngster, dubbed 'the new Roy Keane' by some media outlets.

However, Meulensteen has rejected such rumours and hinted that a move for Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen is more likely.

The first-team coach told Voetbal International: "The name Strootman has internally never been discussed.

"We follow every young player with potential. The same is true for example with Christian [Eriksen].

"I don't have a very clear picture of Strootman as a player. In England, some media call him 'the new Roy Keane' but that seems like nonsense to me."

Manchester United are currently first in the Premier League.
